TypeCal, is the first typography and calligraphy symposium in Kuwait. Every year, they focus on doing one theme for the entire event as well as do yearly rebranding to match the theme. In 2019, their theme was "Parallel". When I started working on the project, I imagined the word "parallel" and its meaning. Parallel lines are lines that never meet. I thought about having the English and Arabic words face each other to satisfy the meaning of the word, but I noticed that the message portrayed a sense of disconnection. TypeCal was the complete of opposite from disconnecting, they valued all calligraphy styles coming from different languages and figured ways on how to combine worlds together into a new form. My final outcome, a typographic style that matched English and Arabic and a form of connection, yet preserving its parallel form.
